Pros

  • Produces a lot of light
  • Super compact
  • Very well made
  • Headband included

Cons

  • 1000 lumens only stays on for 1 min
  • Could get easily lost

The Final Say: If you are wanting a super high quality pocket light, then this is the light for you. This little flashlight is about the length of your palm but packs a serious punch. On “Turbo Mode” it’ll produce a whopping 1000 lumens. Trust me, you don’t want to be looking into the light when that is turned on. This is a very well made light that would be great for someone who is looking for a space saving pocket light but doesn’t want to sacrifice quality or performance.

Perun Mini Kit Full Review

Brightness

Don’t let the small size of the Perun Mini fool you into thinking it doesn’t produce much light. On it’s highest setting it produces 1000 lumens. That is a lot of light for something so small.

To be honest, 1000 lumens is actually too much for most camping situations. That’s why it’s awesome that it comes with a total of 5 different light output settings.

  1. Turbo Mode – 1000 lumens
  2. High – 250 lumens
  3. Medium – 65 lumens
  4. Low – 15 lumens
  5. Moon – 2 lumens

Turbo Mode would be most appropriate when you need to light a very large area. You probably won’t want to use that in many close up situations.

High is a great option for typical use outdoors and around camp. Two hundred and fifty lumens might not sound like a lot but trust me, that will be plenty of light, if not more than enough for most situations.

Medium is the setting that I use most of the time. It only produces 65 lumens but seems like it is appropriate for most situations. It can be used in close quarters without being overwhelming but still used in many larger settings and produce a sufficient amount of light.

Low only produces 15 lumens and is best for close quarters lighting. It is great for inside a tent or somewhere that you don’t want a ton of light.

Moon only produces 2 lumens, which is truly not much light at all. You might ask yourself, what is the point of the moon setting. Well, I find it most useful in the middle of the night when I need to get up to go to the bathroom.

I will typically need a little light to see my shoes and where I am going but I don’t want to turn on a big flashlight and wake everyone up. The Moon setting is perfect for this situation. It produces just enough light to let me see where I am going, without waking up anyone else.

Size

The Perun Mini Kit was specifically designed to be super small and compact. Olight has definitely succeeded when it comes to making a small light. This light is no longer than the palm of your hand. It can easily fit in your pocket and you won’t even know it is there.

The only downside to its size is that because it’s so small, it can be easily lost. If you set it down and forget where you put it, it might not be very easy to find.

Durability

Olight has taken the quality of its lights serious. This little light is built to last. Just by touching it, you can tell this light is made from quality materials. Likewise, the LED used for the light is very high quality.

The light has been drop tested up to 1.5 meters and has a waterproof rating of IPX8. Overall, this is a very well made flashlight that will definitely last for a long time.

Run Time

With the small size of the Perun Mini, it is not going to have as long of run time as other larger flashlights. With that being said, the Perun Mini does a pretty good job when it comes to run time.

  1. Turbo Mode – 1 min and then automatically shifts to high
  2. Hight – 1 hour 38 min
  3. Medium – 6 hours
  4. Low – 25 hours
  5. Mood – 4 days 12 hours

As you can see, on the lower settings you still get a lot of use out of the flashlight before it needs to be recharged. The only real downside to the run time is the Turbo Mode. The problem isn’t that the battery dies too quickly on Turbo Mode but that you can only run Turbo Mode for 1 minute at a time.

After 1 minute of Turbo mode, it automatically shifts to high. This is done so that the battery doesn’t die as quickly but it would be nice to choose to run the light on Turbo Mode constantly, regardless of how quickly the battery dies.

Extras/Features

The flashlight comes with a bunch of extras, that’s why it is called the Perun Mini Kit and not just the Perun Mini. It comes with a lanyard that can be attached to the light. This is great because it helps you keep track of it a little more and gives you another way of holding on to the light.

It also comes with a headband and a duty patch. Using the pocket clip on the flashlight you can attach the light to the duty clip and then velcro that duty clip to the headband to make a headlamp. This is an awesome feature because I find myself using headlamps more often then regular flashlights while out camping.
