The Final Say:
This memory foam camping mattress is great for someone who is looking for extreme comfort and isn’t concerned about space. This memory foam pad is very comfortable and comes in a 2″ or 3″ size. While great for comfort, the manufacturers did not create this with camping in mind. It is less durable than other mattresses intended for camping.
The Full Review
Comfort
This gel memory foam camping mattress is the most comfortable pad we’ve used. The gel memory foam is very soft. It offers a few inches of comfort to help you sleep better while camping. Since this pad is gel memory foam and not standard memory foam, it does not get as hard as standard memory foam when it gets cold. If you are looking for extreme comfort, this is the memory foam camping mattress for you.
Durability
Durability is one area this pad is lacking. This memory foam pad was not manufactured for the purpose of camping; it does not have an outer cover around it. The intent is for a standard mattress; it is more easily damaged than other pads that have a tough outer cover. We haven’t had too much trouble with it; we are simply a little more careful when setting up and packing the pads.
Size
This memory foam mattress comes in many different sizes, making it easy to get almost any size you want. The mattress is available in any standard bed size, starting with a twin and going up to a California king. Additionally, you can get this pad in either a 2″ or 3″ size. This allows you to save money with the 2″ size or go for extreme comfort with the 3″ size.
Compressibility
Surprisingly, for its size, this memory foam camping mattress can be compressed to a relatively small size. However, the mattress is still pretty large when compared to air mattresses. This mattress can pack up pretty well for the size and comfort you get.
- Special memory foam formula is extremely soft, airy and responsive
- Memory foam is infused with a plush gel material that captures heat to control temperature
- Ventilated design improves airflow for a more comfortable sleep climate
Have you had a problem with it cracking when stored? Do you store it folded or rolled?
Jeff, we store ours rolled up. We typically roll them up and store them in garbage bags. It keeps them rolled up while also keeping them clean and protected. The first one we bought was over 4 years ago and we didn’t have any problems with cracking until about 3 weeks ago. We were unrolling the original one we bought and it ended up ripping across the center. It didn’t rip all the way through but about 60-70% off the way. Ultimately, the pad is still useable but its useable life-span is beginning to run out.
