This hatchet does not come with many extras or super nice features, but it gives you all the basics without any extra nonsense. This is a basic hatchet, but the build quality isn’t bad. It is solid and will easily do what you want it to do.

If you want a hatchet and don’t want to worry about the extras, the Coleman Camping Hatchet is for you.

Size

The Coleman Camping Hatchet is a good size. It is large enough to get a decent swing but small enough to use in tighter locations. Some hatches have a relatively long handle to allow for a harder swing, but this one has a smaller handle.

This hatchet will definitely not replace a full axe, but it is great for small splitting jobs. We use this mainly for making kindling. If you are wanting a hatchet that can function as an ax as well, this isn’t the hatchet for you.

Quality

This hatched is not built with the highest standards of quality, but it is also not poorly built. The handle grip is made from a harder rubber, the hatchet head is made from drop-forged steel, and the handle is made from forged steel.

This hatchet will not win any awards for the nicest hatchet, but it is also one that you can depend on to do the job it was made to do. Overall, the quality is sufficient for what it was built for.

Usefulness

This Coleman hatchet can be very useful. We predominantly use it for making kindling and as a hammer. Some other hatchets have additional attachments and features that make them even more useful, but this hatchet does not have any of that.

With that being said, if you are wanting a standard hatchet for cutting wood, branches, and other typical hatchet needs, this Coleman hatchet will be very useful.

Features/Extras

Features and extras are where this hatchet is lacking. Most other hatchets come with additional features or upgraded heads or handle, but this hatchet does not come with any of that. The only extra feature of the hatchet is a notch in the bottom of the blade, making it easy to pull out stakes or nails.
